7 REASONS WHY YOU DESERVE TO TAKE A VACATION
Everyone has joked at some point in time about how they NEED a vacation, but taking a break in a different surrounding has a surprising number of benefits. It’s so much more than seeing a different place and having some down time. Here are seven of our favourite healthy reasons why you deserve a vacation.
Obviously, there’s stress relief. We all know a vacation or travel provides a way to unwind, but have you considered how important it is to keep your stress levels in check? There are numerous studies that point to the damage long-term stress can do to our bodies. Why not eliminate a lot of it by taking a break from the everyday.
Exploring something familiar in a different way. While the Lower Mainland is perfect for many different activities, we can’t really run along a sandy beach in our bare feet, do yoga on the dock or have a massage in the garden year round. This is possible while vacationing to many locations. Plus, there is always the option to experience different forms of yoga, massage oils or other elements to enhance your activity.
BROADEN YOUR MIND
Broaden your mind. When we stay in the same environment, we lose the ability to see the small things or think more creatively. Travelling has us on the lookout for new things so that we can take the blinders off and let our minds wander.
LIVE THE ADVENTURE
Not just on TV. Experience places like the Great Wall, the Leaning Tower of Piza or the Empire State Building up close and in person. It’s one thing to witness them on TV, it’s quite another to see them and touch them.
Enhanced social skills. You will always meet new people when traveling. On a quiet tucked-away beach it might only be the person at the front desk or the taxi driver, but you’ll still be meeting new people in different places.
SHARPEN YOUR MIND
Similar to point #3, when traveling you’re always watchful and looking for new things. By turning that need back on, the brain engages in all sorts of settings to see things you didn’t see before and takes notice of what you may have previously ignored.
Relaxation is good for your body. More than taking the stress off your mind, vacation and travel allow you to listen to your body’s needs and do as much, or as little, as you need in order to feel good physically too.
