Great Gifts
With the advanced technology we live with everyday, adults and kids alike are walking around playing video games on ipads and other mobile devices. While this is very convenient, fun and can be a valuable learning tool, we are losing the simple art of using our imagination to create, connect, entertain and problem solve.
One of our readers sent us the info about Rory's Story Cubes; a simple and effective game that inspires creative thinking. Awarded the Dr. Toy's '10 Best Games', the game consists of 9 cubes printed with 54 images; simply roll the dice, examine the images that are face up and use them to let your imagination run wild and create a story that begins with "Once upon a time." There is also the Voyages version intended for your story to start with "Far, far, away.." and the Actions version for use in second language development.
Now here's a bit of irony, there is a Rory's Story Cube iPhone app which allows you to play the game on the go.
The original version of Rory's Story Cubes are available online at Chapters Indigo for $9.95 CAD and the Actions and Voyages version are available out of the UK onine at thecreativityhub.com for approximately $14.00 USD.
While bangles are not a new obsession at Stimuli, we have found a new artist's work that a couple of us are already collecting and giving as gifts.
We absolutely have fallen in love with the stacking bracelets from Frosted Willow. Available in a variety of different metals including Sterling Silver and Golf Filled Brass, the bangles are delicate and whimsical. The selection of designs is extensive and means that you can create a stacking collection that reflects your personality - and remember, it's OK to mix your metal colours.
In the Stimuli Magazine offices, we call the single bracelet shown here our little Twitter Owl. For those of us that live in the world of social media, you may recognize it as being similar to the owl logo for Hootsuite. This little owl started this new obesession and yes, we are just that nerdy!
Frosted Willow has almost 300 items available on her Etsy store. These little bangles start at $14.95 each. Upon ordering you must specific the size of bracelet you want: small, medium or large in diameter.
Are you as frustrated as we are? As much as we love collecting points and rewards, the amount of cards that we have to carry around with us has become unmanageable. Add to that the gift cards we may have been given and the fact is there is no wallet big enough in the world to hold all of them. So what do you do?
Enter The Card Cache; an ingenious, stylish yet simple card organization system. Here's how it works: sort your cards alphabetically, punch a hole in the upper left hand corner (avoid the magnetic strip) and thread it onto The Card Cache. The best part is that you don't have to take the card off to use it, just swipe and go.
In addition to the four designs you can choose from for your Card Cache charm, you can continue to customize your Card Cache with pretty charms and accessories such as a mini Sharpie pen, a calendar and and the Little Pink Purse to carry it all in.
The Card Cache makes a great gift for a bridal or baby shower; what better way to keep track of all the gift cards the guest of honour receives for her big event.
The Card Cache is available online starting at $13.00 with shipping to Canada at $11.00. To help offset the shipping cost, The Card Cache company is offering Stimuli readers a special discount code. Upon checkout, enter coupon code STIMULI30 and you'll receive 30% off your purchase. The coupon code is valid from today, March 6th through Friday, March 16, 2012.
Congratulations to Tina and Chelsey. They are the winner of the Card Cache Bundle Essentials. This contest is now closed.
Additionally, we are giving away two Bundle Essential packages that include a Card Cache of your choice, a 5-tab divider set, a calendar and 2 clear protector sleeves valued at $20.00 each. To enter, post a comment on this editorial. The winner will be announced on Friday, March 9, 2012.
