Everywhere you look you will see people carrying and drinking from a bottle of water. Gone are the days when we simply turned on the tap, filled a glass and drank. What is this doing to our environment? How much does this cost us every year?
Of the 10 billion—yes BILLION—water bottles sold each year, only 10% are recycled. The rest end up in landfills. This doesn’t even take into account the amount of greenhouse gases that are produced just to deliver these bottles to retailers around the globe. However, even with these facts, water quality and taste issues continue to make bottled water the beverage of choice.
Kelowna based Watergeeks offers numerous alternatives to traditional bottled water. We are loving the Filtered Stainless Steel bottle. Each non-leaching, PBA-Free bottle comes with a water purifying filter that effectively removes chlorine, bad taste, odour, lead, heavy metals and other potential water contaminants. This means that you can fill your bottle up at any regular tap and enjoy the pure, refreshing taste of clean, filtered water without using a plastic bottle. Each filter is good for 800 - 12 oz fills and replacement filters are available.
Watergeeks is founded by Brent Meikle, Executive Producer of the 2008 Award Winning Documentary “FLOW: For Love Of Water”. Their mission is to empower today’s generation to reduce water consumption and enable us to conserve this critical resource without having to make major lifestyle changes.
Watergeeks bottles are available at Home Outfitters as well as online. Visit their website to learn more about their products and the World Water Crisis.

With the cold weather here, we are all looking to keep warm while maintaining our sense of fashion. How can you do that?
Alpaca.
Catherine Simpson and her partner, Jim Dales own and operate Kensington Prairie Farm in Langley, BC. Kensington Prairie Farm is home to 65 Huacaya and Suri Alpacas. Alpacas are shorn annually and the fleece is sorted and graded according to fineness, colour and length and sent to various mills for processing. Laureen Barker and Catherine Simpson created Kensington Prairie Fibre Wear with a goal to create and source high-end alpaca fashion products for a discerning clientele. With Kensington Prairie Fibre Wear, customer satisfaction is guaranteed.
Alpaca fleece is the natural fibre harvested from Huacaya and Suri alpacas. Huacaya fibre grows in crimped staples, thus making a naturally elastic yarn perfect for knits. Suri fibre grows in ringlet-style locks, has far less crimp but exceptional luster and best suited for woven goods.
Alpaca is a soft, durable, luxurious and silky natural fibre. While similar to merino wool fibre, alpaca yarns tend to be stronger and warmer than wool yarns. Alpaca is not prickly and has no lanolin which makes it hypoallergenic for most individuals sensitive to sheep's wool. Alpaca fleece is naturally water-repellent, is thermal even when wet and can resist the solar radiation effectively.
Alpaca is a natural, eco-friendly fibre that does not require dry cleaning. It cleans easily with hand washing. How great and eco-friendly is that?
Alpaca is sustainable as a fibre, and is naturally organic. Alpacas as animals are soft on the environemnt, making alpaca a truly green textile.
We invite you to experience the luxurious softness, cozy warmth and easy comfort of Alpaca. You can make an appointment to visit Kensington Prairie Farm by calling 604-626-4395 or 604-538-9341 or drop by Penelope Fibre Arts at 1387 Johnston Road, White Rock.

So many kids don’t like to have the different flavours, colours and textures of their meal touch each other. It can be really difficult and not very environmentally friendly to have a separate disposable plastic container or bag for each food item. Not to mention is virtually impossible to find a lunch bag big enough to fit them all.
The problem has been solved with the new Goodbyn lunchbox. Created by a small company in Seattle, Goodbyn’s mission is to re-invent the way kids each lunch. A lot of thought and research went into the development of the Goodbyn lunchbox. The built-in handle and kid-tested “ears” make it easy for kids to carry and open. Even with the lid on, each compartment is separately sealed so nothing leaks into another compartment. Brilliant!
Other great features include the fact that it is dishwasher safe, comes with an 8.5oz drink bottle and is completely recyclable.
Kids can make this lunchbox their own. Each Goodbyn comes with three sheets of hundred of stickers for kids to express their own personality.
The Goodbyn lunchbox is available at Off to Bed in Fort Langley.

We know it sounds crazy. Denim that is flexible enough to do the Downward Dog in? Unheard of.
Until now.
Second Denim is a 100% Canadian clothing company. Love that! All their garments are manufactured in North America with the finest fabrics in the world.
Second Denim has a wide variety of different fits and styles but what really caught our attention is their Yoga line. Generally, denim is not associated with perfect comfort. Second has changed that. This denim line offers the perfect balance between the trendy styling of a 5-pocket jean with the comfort of lounge pants.
“Yoga is currently very popular in North America. Some 9 million people practice this discipline uniting body and mind. And they appreciate anything that contributes to balance and well-being,” notes Second designer Eric Wazana. "That's why we've created these fabulous jeans that combine the height of flexibility and style.”
We don’t really think you’ll be doing the Warrior pose in your denim but you will be able to go through your day looking great and feeling like you are wearing your lounge pants.
Second Denim also has a Vintage line and an Eco line. All feature skinny, flare or boot leg cuts in different washes.
You can find Second Denim at All Things Being Eco in Chilliwack, Dena’s Boutique in Walnut Grove and Plum Clothing Stores.
