Taking after his father, a traditional man who has always shown class and style, Prince William, soon-to-be husband of Kate Middleton has set a precedent for men’s dress. And although the current attention on the Prince may lean toward his upcoming nuptials, there are many tricks we can take away from this member of the Royal Family.

Don’t shy from colour. One of the biggest mistakes men make in selecting shirts for their wardrobe is shying away from colour. True, selecting a colour and hue that compliments your hair colour colour, eye colour, and skin tone is a difficult task to master on your own, but this is why we have been blessed with talented sales clerks, who have been trained to help you choose what will look best on you. Work with what you got. Prince William has always looked great in his military uniform and many rumours speculate that it might be his outfit of choice on the big day. Knowing your best features is important when selecting an outfit so that you minimize attention to less desirable aspects, William’s balding head for example, and emphasize your best traits.

Add a touch of elegance. Royalty often exude an air of confidence and elegance that is assumed to come with their noble titles and upbringing. What many don’t know is that anyone can achieve that same look by putting thought into their outfit. Include a classic in every outfit: a well-tailoured blazer, a crisp collared polo, or an oxford blue dress shirt. Pair it with a touch of confidence and a smile and you could pass for royalty any day.

Be setting appropriate. It is one of the biggest fashion mistakes one can make: being under or overdressed for an occasion. Having been to many events in his day, this is something that Prince William has mastered to a tea. Inform yourself of the event details prior to selecting your outfit to ensure that you meet the dress standards. A suit to a charity event, a sports blazer to a polo match, board shorts to the beach, etc.

Of course many could say that Prince William could do no wrong in the style department as he seems to have found the perfect accessory—a beautiful bride-to-be. Female companion aside, the Prince has proved that classic and pulled-together looks are the key to dressing like a Royal, all it takes is a little thought.
